Job Details
Job Purpose: Optimizes efficiency of production associates by taking directions from management; provide management with data-based feedback regarding timing of projects and any issues.
Job Requirements:
- This job has supervisory responsibilities that are to be carried out in accordance with the organization’s policies as well as applicable laws.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with 1 – 3 months related experience and / or training or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read tape measure, blueprints and diagrams.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information to top management and other employees of the organization in one-on-one and / or small group situations.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Will be regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear.
- The employee is occasionally required to sit.
- The employee must regularly lift and / or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

Job duties:
- This job has supervisory responsibilities and will include enforcing company policies as well as participating in interviewing, hiring, and training new employees. Responsibilities will also include employee reviews and employee disciplinary actions; expected to make recommendations for permanent hire of temporary employees or termination of any employee not living up to company expectations. Training documentation and reviews are to be processed in a timely manner.
- Analyzes and resolves work-related problems or assists employees in solving them.
- Take directions from management and utilize production associates most effectively to hit deadlines. This position is ultimately responsible for hitting deadlines.
- Analyzes work orders to determine information such as material to be used, type of operations and sequence of required operations. Make assignments based on this analysis.
- Confers with other Group Leaders to coordinate activities of individual departments / work cells.
- Processes appropriate job “clock-offs” in ERP system in timely manner to keep material usage information up to date for Purchasing and Inventory Control.
- Verifies weekly payroll within the timeframe required by Payroll Department.
- Work alongside other Associates to accomplish the following:
- Spot check work in process for quality and hold associates accountable for documented quality standards.
- Provide insight to management as to process improvements: necessary tools available to do the job required; documentation provided is adequate; construction materials convenient and timely.
- Develop the sense of time required to complete the work.
- Keep associates accountable as to time on task.
- Assist in cross-training associates so all associates are qualified to do all tasks.
- Contribute to completing the workload (i.e., work alongside those being supervised).
- Responsible for communicating with 2nd shift or 3rd shift group leader so their contribution is optimized, and subsequent rework is minimized.
- Provide real data to management on work in the form of:
- Status of current projects (% complete);
- Projected man-hours to do future work for quoting purposes and for scheduling purposes.
- Studies production schedules and estimates man-hour requirements for completion of job assignment; provides this information to Production Manager.
- Tracks man-hours on each job and provides data to Production Manager upon job completion or upon request.
- Responsible for the quality of the products coming out of their area. This activity may require inspection documentation to be completed by the Group Leader to indicate that the in-process product meets all the necessary requirements at that point in the manufacturing process. The required documentation is to be completed and submitted in a timely manner.
- Examines defective machinery to determine cause of malfunction and reports need for machine repairs to Maintenance and / or Production Manager.
- Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules without negatively impacting product quality or required acceptance criteria.
- Communicates company policies to employees and enforces them as appropriate.
- Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of the shop, department or work crew. Recommended measures may be directed at improving production methods, equipment performance, or quality of product.
- Initiates or suggests plans to motivate employees to achieve work goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
